21/12/2009 - CREST & JMT Leather to merge in the UK
We are delighted to announce that as of 1st February 2010 we will merge with JMT Leather, to form a new company, to be known as “Crest JMT Leather Ltd”.
Crest is the only British company to own and operate a tannery in Italy. Therefore we are able to control all the stages of our production, as well as to understand and accommodate the specific and individual requirements of our customers. “Joining forces with JMT here in the UK makes good commercial sense. It reinforces our customer base and means that both companies can bring their own strengths to the new brand.” (Chirag Patel Group MD of Crest Leather).
Crest already has offices around the world, and we operate tanneries in Italy, Brazil and Thailand. These facilities are dedicated to meeting the needs of our customers worldwide. Both Crest and JMT have been trading strongly in the UK market for 15 years and have grown consistently each year.
Our joint venture will create the largest and most comprehensive upholstery leather collection available in the UK.

Our joint merger makes good commercial sense, since it enables us to reduce operating costs, remain competitive and strengthen our market position. Crests Italian tannery “Conceria de Vestena” already produces 3-4 million feet of leather per month and has the capacity to supply all the leather required for the new UK company. “Our tannery produces all types of leather including Aniline, Semi-Anilines and many different half grain and Pigmented varieties. As many of our ranges were different to those of JMT, it made good sense to merge them into one single leather collection and give our customers the widest choice of leather available in Europe for immediate delivery.” Chirag Patel Group MD of Crest Leather.
Modern tanning processes mean that even upholstery leather can be produced to have a more glove like feel, and maintain its suppleness all through its lifetime. The majority of the leather produced by Conceria di Vestena is suitable for Contract and Commercial use, in Public buildings, Hotels, Restaurants, Bars, Retail premises and Leisure facilities.
All of our leathers conform to important industry standards and specifically to the European ISO 9001 standard, for use in all domestic, industrial, marine, automotive and aviation environments.
From February 1st 2010, the new company “Crest JMT Leather Ltd” will operate from Rochdale Lancashire, our current premises.
